What are Essential Oils?
Essential oils are the life blood of plants. Found inside each plant is a compound, this is the oil of the plant and it want supports the survival and thriving of each plant. Kind of like your blood supports your physical body. The essential oil of each plant is found in different parts of each plant. When you hold a bottle of essential oil in your hand it was actually extracted from the plant itself. Its important to know the integrity of the essential oils you choose to use because not all oils out there are properly extracted or tested for purity and safety standards.
How Do Essential Oils Work?
Each essential oil has its own molecular make up which can interact with the body systems. Depending on the oil you use will depend on the affect/effect that results. For example, peppermint can work with the body to create a cooling and energizing, it can also provide support in reducing congestion. How To Use Essential Oils?
You can use essential oils topically or aromatically. Some oils can be used internally but should only be used that way with the purest of essential oils and the appropriate knowledge and experience.
Topical Use: This is any time you place an essential oil on your skin. Using roller bottles or drops of oil on specific areas of the body would be considered topical use.

Aromatic Use: This would be anytime you breath in the oil. When using a diffuser or smelling from the bottle you are practicing aromatic application. Most of the time when you use an essential oil topically you also get to enjoy it aromatically!

Essential oils are very powerful and only a few drops are need for effectiveness. In fact 1 drop of peppermint essential oil is equal to 28 cups of peppermint tea. When using essential oils its important to remember this and follow a few safety tips.
- Always dilute your essential oils. (See chart above for ratio)
- It is Important to do your research before using essentials internally. Make sure the company runs the appropriate testing to ensure the purity of the essential oil.
- Certain oils have sun sensitivity, and you would not want to have on your skin in the sunlight. These essential oils would not be applied to the skin before going outside. Most citrus oils such as lemon and bergamot have sun sensitivity.
