History
- Since earliest times, Moonstone has been a tangible connection to the magic of the moon – an amulet of protection for travelers, a gift of lovers for passion, a channel for prophecy, and a path to wisdom.
- Used in Roman jewelry for nearly two thousand years, even longer in the Orient. Romans believed the stone would bestow wisdom, good fortune & love to Its wearer.
- It has always been a sacred stone in India with a special significance for lovers, and is a traditional wedding gift there.
- Moonstone also has a long history as a “Traveler’s Stone.” When worn as an amulet, moonstone was said to protect travelers, especially at night, and especially when the moon is shining. Ancient mariners believed it would protect them when traveling over water.
- During the Middle Ages, moonstone was used for scrying the future.
