Legend
Native Inuit tribes of North America claim the first Labradorite fell from the Aurora Borealis from the fire of their ancestors. Another legend describes a brave Inuit warrior who struck Labradorite with his spear and created the Northern Lights.
History
- First discovered in Labrador, Canada, by Moravian missionaries in 1770 who named it for the area.
- Was known to be used by the Red Paint people of Maine for over 1,000 years.
- The Inuit used powdered Labradorite as a potent remedy to cure sickness and a multitude of ailments. It gave someone new life, and increased energy, drawn from the ancestral spirits inside.
- Inuit people also used labradorite as a protective amulet believed to ease anxiety because the wearer had guardianship of their ancestors.
