Legend of African Bloodstone

Legend has it that African Bloodstone is shattered remains of the holy grail. Some say the stone formed from Christ’s blood during his crucifixion. This may be just a legend (or fictional story) regardless, it shows how this stone has been prized for centuries.

History

➡️ In ancient times Bloodstone was believed to be an “audible oracle” giving guidance through the medium of sound.

➡️ Considered a magical and mystical crystal for centuries.

➡️ Ancient Egypt - used African Bloodstone in everything from amulets to carved statues.

➡️ Famous in Rome and Greece, early examples of Bloodstone have been found in Roman ruins.

➡️ During the Middle Ages, African Bloodstone fell out of favor for a time. It was seen as a stone of bad luck and was associated with death and violence.

➡️ The Renaissance brought African Bloodstone back into favor as it was again appreciated for its beauty and unique properties. People believed that the stone could reflect sunlight like a mirror. This belief led to the widespread use of Bloodstone in jewelry. It was also used to make cameos, which were popular among the nobility.

➡️ Popularity continued during the Victorian era where it was often used in mourning jewelry as it was seen as a stone of comfort for those grieving the loss of a loved one.
